French Women's Slimming Tips
  Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Here are a few French tips on how to stay fit without ever setting foot in la gym.

1.) Don’t save your steps, multiply them! Instead of driving your car around in circles to find a close spot, purposefully park far away and walk the couple extra feet. Do you know burning a mere 50 extra calories a day equates to five pounds a year?! Burn those calories creatively; think thrice about using interoffice mail, walk that memo to your coworker’s office. Take an extra few laps around the block at lunchtime, take the long way home when walking your dog at night. The principle is to squeeze as much physical exertion as possible during a few intervals a day into what were once routine tasks tied to avoiding any physical efforts.

2.) Incorporate simple resistance movements into your daily routine. Use your own body weight as resistance wherever possible. Isometric exercises, discreet but effective, are very French. This can be done before you even leave the house in the morning. For example, while waiting in traffic or on the subway, contract your abs for 12 seconds with your back pressed against the seat (it’s better for you than road rage). When reading a magazine at home, try sitting on the floor with your legs stretched and apart in a V and your hands on each side; this is a great stretch for your inner thigh muscles.

3.) Take care of your core. I’m a firm believer that we need to attend to our abdominals as we age. These are the muscles that hold all our vital organs in place; they support good posture and a healthy spine, something we must take care of as we get older. Do a few sit-ups as part of a little stretch/exercise/yoga routine in the morning — it’s never too early or too late to start this ritual.

4.) Acquaint yourself with small to moderate free weights (3-5 lbs.), especially if you’re over 40. A bit of extremely simple resistance training is an antidote to hours spent on gym machines. Short but focused movement with small weights is a good way to preserve upper body tone and bone density and supplement the cardiovascular benefits of an active lifestyle. A little goes a long way, and that only increases the older you get, so don’t let extremism overtake you.

5.) Get en vélo. Americans tend to see bicycling as recreation, and often either as a child’s pastime or a hobby for only the most serious triathletes. But French and European women see cycling as a mode of transportation. I encourage those who can bike to work or shopping to do so. One of my pleasures in Provence is taking my bike to run errands. Riding my bike is one of my favorite warm weather routines and is, of course, environmentally clean and efficient, so I am happy to see bikes and bike lanes increasing in New York and other cities. Cycling has well-known health benefits: it’s a low-impact, mild aerobic exercise that strengthens your heart and lungs; tones the large (read: fat-burning) muscle groups; keeps joints, tendons and ligaments flexible; builds stamina; and is generally fun, reducing stress and boosting your mood. And the view from a real bicycle ride beats the view from a stationary bike in a white-walled gym any day of the week

6.) Yoga. If there was ever a fountain of youth, it might be the practice of yoga. Not only does it reduce stress, improve your posture and help to develop longer, leaner limbs, it also speeds up your metabolism, works nearly every muscle group and promotes an overall bodily wellness that no other sport or class can compete with. I practice yoga religiously, usually in the comfort of my own home. I am no yogi; I do not spend hours upon end on my head — I simply have a handful of mastered poses and movements that make me feel good and keep me limber and trim. Most women can find 20-30 minutes a day to practice if they make it a priority. No equipment necessary.

7.) Vive l’escalier! Taking the stairs whenever possible is one of the main tenets of my philosophy. It always astounds me to see people who live no higher than the fourth floor and with nothing more to carry than themselves taking the elevator. In France, walking up and down stairs is a perfunctory part of our day. We rarely spend an hour stair climbing, but you should know that climbing stairs burns a stunning 1100 calories per hour. Climbing a couple flights a day will surely go a long way. A few times a week I choose to walk up the 15 flights of stairs to my apartment for some healthy fun — and yes, I do enjoy it.

8 Info Kesihatan Buat Lelaki
  Thursday, September 10, 2009

5. Berlari 8 jam seminggu elak kanser prostat

Selain itu, tahap kesuburan lelaki yang memasuki umur 40-an menurun akibat penuaan menyebabkan mereka seperti wanita berisiko mendapat zuriat terencat seperti Sindrom Down.

8. Makanan laut tingkatkan kualiti sperma

Ingin tingkatkan kualiti sperma?

Do U Eat Petai?
  Monday, June 22, 2009

I've found this article from my old email to be shared, tak kira ada yang pernah baca this article atau tak.

Petai Parkia Javanica

Little did you know …… after reading THIS, you’ll NEVER look at petai in the same way again!

Petai contains three natural sugars -sucrose, fructose and glucose. Combined with fiber, petai gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proved that just two servings of petai provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute wor kout. No wonder petai is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. But energy isn’t the only way petai can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND among people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating petai. This is because petai contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS(premenstrual syndrome):Forget the pills – eat petai. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:High in iron, petai can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the petai industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating petai at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert. Understand that bananas contain lot of potassium too so eat more banana. Just look at those monkeys, they are really active, alert, smart and cunning too!!

Constipation:High in fiber, including petai in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a petai milkshake, sweetened with honey. The petai calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn:Petai has a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating petai for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:Snacking on petai between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of the petai skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:Petai is high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight:Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report c oncluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:Petai is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control:Many other cultures see petai as a ‘cooling’ fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In hoiland, for example, pregnant women eat petai to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):Petai can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer, tryptophan.

Smoking:Petai can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium petai snack.

Strokes:According to research in ‘The New England Journal of Medicine,’ eating petai as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%’.

Warts:Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of petai and place it on the wart. Carefully hold the petai in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, as you can see, petai really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, ‘A Petai a day keeps the doctor away’.

Berakhirnya Sebuah Kegusaran
  Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Warghh..tajuk bukan main...Actually ni pasal i yang confused. Ke'confuse'san yang dah berbulan2 antara I and one of my colleage berakhir hari ni.. hehehe..bukan pasal ape pun. It s only because of this pokok yang bernama merunggai (nama ni yang pernah i sendiri dengar masa kat ipoh). So bila I check kat tenet ni, ade lagi nama lain.. Kelor, munggai, berunggai,...banyak lagi kot.. In english plak Malunggay..uishh.. And scientific name is Moringa oleifera.

Biji benih pokok kelor ni. (aritu dah bawa balik tanam kat kampung mertua)

Sebenarnya yang jadi confuse sebab orang tu cakap pokok tu nama Turi. Tapi bila I check pasal pokok Turi tu, rupanya lain. Nama scientific Sesbania grandiflora syn. Aeschynomene grandiflora. Oh yeahhhh...I menang lagi perang mulut..hehehe..

Poko Turi (Sesbania grandiflora syn. Aeschynomene grandiflora)

Bijinya memang lain and bunga dia pun amat berbeza dari pokok kelor tu. PokokTuri ni banyak orang guna untuk masak, contohnya masak lemak, masak sayur pedas. Daunnya memang berbeza sebab daun Turi ni lebih lebar nak berbanding daun berunggai tu lebih bulat sedikit.

Bercakap pasal berunggai ni, kalau kat pasar tani tu kadang-kadang ada jual biji dia yang panjang tu. Orang india suka letak dalam masakan kari. macam i plak, masa kecik-kecik dulu my mum suka masak sayur pedas letak daun nya. memang sodappp..

(source :http://www.delange.org/Moringa/Moringa.htm)

Siap orang jadikan Mallunggay Spread lagi. Sure sedap.. Erm..kesimpulannya memang tak sia-sia I balik tanam banyak2 kat kampung aritu. Oh yeah.!!! nak tau banyak lagi pasal merunggai, boleh la klik sini.

p/s: sape2 berminat nak anak benih, boleh la contact saya disini.

Do not Re-use Mineral Water Bottles!
  Friday, June 5, 2009

Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles.
Some of you may be in the habit of using and re-using your disposable mineral water bottles (eg. Nestle, Bisleri, Aquafina,Kinley, Evian, etc…), keeping them in your car or at work, Not a good idea.

It happened in Dubai, when a 12 year old girl died after a long usage (16 months) of SAFA mineral water bottle, as she used to carry the same fancy (painted by herself) bottle to her school daily.

In a nutshell, the plastic (called polyethylene terephthalate or PET) used in these bottles contains a potentially carcinogenic element (something called diethylhydroxylamine or DEHA). The bottles are safe for one-time use only; if you must keep them longer, it should be or no more than a few days, week max, and keep them away from heat as well, Repeated washing and rinsing can cause the plastic to break down and the carcinogens (cancer-causing chemical agents) can leak into the water that YOU are drinking. Better to invest in water bottles that are really meant for multiple uses.

This is not something we hould be scrimping on. Those of you with family - do please advise them, especially children. Please forward this informatoin.
Prevention is better than cure.

How to Avoid:
Check on the bottom of the bottle there is a triangle sign and there will be a number on it.
If the number is higher than or equal to 5, then the bottle is safe to use.
Whatever number under 5, will release the chemical. For most bottle water, the number is 1.
Did you know chimical released by platic water bottles can cause cancer.
(it is not the water thats affecting you but the chimical releasing from the bottle)
Pass this to all your friends and also make them aware of it.
